Today, I seen on Facebook, another much-loved independent gym has sadly closed its doors 💔
A gym that has been around for years. A gym that has helped countless people. A gym that was once absolutely thriving. A gym that, like so many small businesses, has simply found the rising costs, competition and lack of support too much to carry.
And honestly… it’s heartbreaking.
Because behind every small gym is real people.
People who have poured their hearts, time, money and energy into creating somewhere that feels like more than just a place to exercise.
It’s a community. It’s familiar faces. It’s friendships. It’s somewhere you feel comfortable. It’s somewhere where someone notices when you haven’t been in. It’s somewhere you can walk through the door and feel like you belong. 💜
But small independent gyms cannot survive on love alone.
If you love your gym, support it.
If you love your instructor, book their classes.
If you love the community, keep showing up.
If you have a membership, use it.
Tell your friends. Share their posts. Recommend them. Buy that extra class. Take part in the events. Give feedback. Be part of it.
Because when the doors close, they’re not always easy to reopen.
We all love a bargain. We all understand that money is tight. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with choosing what works for you financially.
But sometimes the cheapest option isn’t necessarily the one that gives you the most.
Small gyms need their communities now more than ever.
So please don’t wait until your favourite gym is gone to realise how much it meant to you.
Support local. Support independent. Support the people who support YOU. ❤️
Because once these places disappear, we can’t always get them back.
And to every small gym owner, instructor and team member trying desperately to keep the doors open right now…
We see you. We appreciate you. And we know how hard you’re working. 💜
